Whitney, the continental U.S.'s tallest mountain, the worlds largest tree, and the John Muir trail. With almost a thousand miles of trail system, and even more remote pristine areas, this is the perfect place to learn and improve your wilderness skills. You will hike under the towering granite monolith and explore the same places that John Muir did when he said this is "the gem of the sierra." Through this section you will cook your meals, navigate by map and compass, jump in glacial fed lakes, discover your limits, get stronger hiking through mountainous terrain and most of all have the time of your life.
Rock Climbing, Sequoia and Kings Canyon.
When people associate California with rock climbing, they usually think of Yosemite. Little do people realize that Sequoia and Kings Canyon is referred to by many as an "Alpine Yosemite." Meaning it has all the characteristics and rock of Yosemite, but you have to hike into the back country to access it. This is one of the areas that rock climbing pioneers mastered their craft such as, Royal Robbins, Fred Beckey, Yvon Chouinard and Galen Rowell. This is the perfect place to spend time learning the core principals of rock craft. You will learn knots, movement skills, safety systems and get to climb. Those who are ready will attempt a multi-pitch climb. This will be ideal for the first time climber and the veteran climber.
