Bolivia is known to the world as the highest and most rugged nation in the southern hemisphere. The country’s largest city, La Paz rests at 3660m, which is over two miles high! Surpassing the beauty of the high alpine peaks of the Cordillera Real (“The Royal Range”) and numerous other ranges is the beauty of the rich indigenous heritage within the country.
The majority of the course will be in Parque Nacional Tunari, the range surrounding the Cochabamba region. Here we will attempt to climb Macchu Tunari, (16,600 feet).

The course is designed around the WEA Curriculum’s – Six Core Competencies. These competencies are all in relationship to the backbone of outdoor leadership: judgment. The core competencies include: Planning and Logistics, Risk Management, Leadership, Environmental Integration, and Education.

Depending on your prior experience and goals for this course, you will be able to choose either the Professional Short Course Track or the Wilderness Steward Program Track. Also included in the course is the Leave No Trace, Center for Outdoor Ethics, Trainer course certificate.
The Professional Short Course (PSC) is a shortened version of the NSP and is designed for professionals already working in the field of outdoor leadership or related fields that wish to receive a NSP Outdoor Leadership Certificate on the fast track. Matriculation into this course requires that the potential candidates complete an application and screening process that focuses primarily on outdoor leadership skills. Only those who qualify will be able to attend this intense indoctrination to the WEA 18-Point Curriculum, philosophy and teaching techniques. PSC’s are typically 10 days in length and are taught expedition style, but generally with more class time to maximize learning.

The Wilderness Steward Program (WSP) is typically 10 days in length and is designed to teach participants the basics of judgment and decision-making skills, leadership, minimum impact camping and travel techniques, and other essential components of the 18-point curriculum. This course format gives the participants an overview of the must-knows of outdoor leadership skills and techniques. A Wilderness Steward Program is intended for recreation professionals, licensed guides, camp counselors and anyone who wishes to sharpen his or her outdoor and leadership skills or learn more about the field of outdoor leadership.
