About

Expedition:

noun, a journey or excursion undertaken for a specific purpose.

Core Values.

We hope to be known for many things such as safety, fun, adventure, growth, life long friends, exotic destinations, new skills and discovery. These characteristics are born out of our core values, the bedrock to this program. They shape and influence every aspect of what we do, from hiring our staff, designing our expeditions and even how we choose the food that we eat. Every square inch of Black Mountain Expeditions has been scrutinized so that it reflects the values: Purpose, People and Place.

Our Leadership.

Developing a remarkable staff is the bedrock of a great program. It is crucial for young people to be led by and develop relationships with professional staff who both genuinely care about them and are gifted in the technical skills that they teach. We believe that selecting and training our staff is the most important thing we do. Simply put, we know our staff before they begin working for us. Common Industry standards in hiring procedures such as background and reference checks and typical interviews are a fine place to start, but they are not enough. Before we hire a staff member we ask ourselves if we have enough confidence in their skills, character, faith, judgment and maturity to place our own children in their care. That takes time spent with potential staffers, watching the way they lead and the way they interact with people.

Expedition Design.

Similar to making bread, designing and carrying out a meaningful and successful expedition is more than taking a few ingredients, throwing them in a bag, and mixing them together. We know it takes a great deal of work, strategy, and care to offer the best expedition. Like the aroma of the freshly baked loaf of bread reminds the baker it was worth the care invested, watching the participants accomplish feats once thought impossible, reminds us it is worth the care invested.plish feats once though impossible, reminds us it is worth the care invested.
