On March 13, I will be joining a team of 4 outdoor educators and travelling to Bolivia. We are going to Bolivia with the intention of accomplishing several goals. One is to build a relationship with a local camp and adventure program called Camp Kewina in Cochabamba. The camp is associated with Serving in Mission (SIM International) and is located near the center of the cocaine producing areas of Bolivia. The camp is attempting to offer some alternatives to the local community that do not involve cocaine. We firmly believe that summer camp not only transforms kids lives, but inturn families lives and even communities. We have the opportunity to work with camp Kewina in being able to serve the community of Cochabamba and offer tranditional camp and adventure experiences like Kayaking and mountaineering. We will be training the staff important kayak skills so they are able to teach and do river trips with a fleet of Kayaks that was donated by a team last year. We will also be joining Camp Kewina’s staff and travel to the Cordillera Real just outside of La Paz. The Cordillera Real is an internationally renowned mountain range know for it’s numerous 5000 – 6000 meter peaks (over 20,000 feet). We will be both training and developing our alpine mountaineering skills and looking for suitable areas to take groups from camp Kewina and Black Mountain Expeditions.
This expedition will take place in the same areas and with the same people as our Bolivia Mission and Mountaineering Expedition. If you are interested in this summers expedition, check out the web page and drop me a line, ryan@blackmountainexpeditions.com.
